I started all seven simultaneously from randomly sized blocks. I draw on them with a crayon to indicate where bubbles will be. I use a big circular saw to cut ribs where the stone isn't supposed to be, then I use hammer and chisel to gently break the ribs. Then I shape the pieces with a grinder -- it's very dusty, but the pieces are too small and fragile to be chiselled into shape. All the pieces are filed and sanded by hand. Then I dip a rag into a bees-wax finish designed specifically for wood, and then dip into a powdered pigment used for clay finishes. I rub the wax onto the stone and then buff the pieces to a dull shine.
